Nikon D7200 NEF Compatibility

I've just recently upgraded my amazing Nikon D7000 to the even-more-amazing D7200. There are tons of reviews out there, so I won't go into details about the camera itself - but I did run into one particularly annoying problem. I shoot exclusively in raw (.NEF for Nikon), and bring all my photos into Adobe Lightroom for processing. Due to some kind of compatibility problem with the new EXIF data in the D7200, I can find almost no software which will open these NEF images.

Fortunately, I found some information in a forum on dpreview.com which lead me to a workaround - the EXIF data can be modified to display D7200 images as D5300 images, which makes everything work the way I want it to. Unfortunately, the process is not entirely straight-forward, especially for someone (like me) who has never modified EXIF data manually before.

I set out to make a very simple, all-in-one solution to fix this one problem, and you can download my D7200 to D5300 EXIF converter for Windows. It's a batch file and executable file (exiftool) which you can put anywhere on your computer without installation. Once extracted, all you have to do is drag-and-drop your raw files or folders right on to the batch file (called "D7200 EXIF to D5300") and it will update the EXIF metadata to allow compatibility with all the major programs (including thumbnails in Explorer).
